The USC STAR program continues expanding its partnerships in order to provide students with advanced science education and research experiences that are directly relevant to current issues in society. We recently partnered with the Institute of Global Health (IGH) at the University of Southern California. Through the IGH program, students learn about different health problems plaguing the world. This course offers students a 2-week college experience in Global Health and Disease. At the end of this course, the students work on a specific research plan for a sub-Saharan African country. The PI's guide students in researching and understanding the health issues abroad. They will be equipped with more comprehensive knowledge of how to approach, analyze, and tackle critical issues that affect local and global communities. Currently, two of our STAR program students will be producing a research project that will be implemented in one of the sub-Saharan countries in Africa sometime in 2014.
